Probation is the formal supervision of individuals who have been convicted of a felony offense or a misdemeanor which has been reduced from a felony offense. The individuals are given community sanctions rather than a prison term. These community sanctions may include a jail term, housing at a rehabilitation treatment center, community service work, counseling, education requirements as well as other various requirements. The mission statement of the probation department is to consider the safety of the community and provide an individual with the tools and guidance to better themselves and avoid situations that invite criminal activity. This is to be accomplished by providing to clients individualized programming and supervision which includes intense supervision, regular supervision, periodic drug testing, community service, various counseling, utilization of lock down facilities, education requirements and electronic monitoring. All probationers are required to follow the rules of probation set by the Shelby. All misdemeanor violations require an individual to be on probation for no less than one year and not more than five years. All felony offenders are required to be on probation no less than two years and no more than five years.

Allegheny County Adult Probation and Parole is charged by the Court of Common Pleas with the responsibility of providing effective community-based alternatives to incarceration, improving public safety, partnering with community and law enforcement resources and promoting positive behavioral change from offenders. Please be advised that the Adult Probation Office has initiated an emergency number which can be used to contact Probation Officers after normal working hours. Calls to this number will be handled by an answering service between the hours of P.
Mission Statement : To ensure the safety of the residents of Lorain County by providing community-based supervision and rehabilitation through a multi-disciplinary approach to persons being convicted or adjudicated of a crime. Offenders are sent to our department from Court where they are placed on community control. Supervision services are also provided as needed to the Municipal Courts of Lorain County. The Adult Probation Department is responsible for providing Intensive Supervised Probation services to offenders in the community. The goal of the Adult Probation Department is to facilitate rehabilitative efforts for offenders, resulting in a safer environment for the residents of Lorain County. These officers supervise offenders within the County rather than taxpayers pay the cost to house offenders in prisons. In addition, cognitive behavior treatment is available for all offenders while on probation. This programming has been successful in reducing recidivism rates and giving Judges of the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas alternatives to prison. The Lorain County Adult Probation Department is dedicated to promoting safety within the community and victim reparation by providing strict Court order monitoring and cognitive behavioral programming for offenders.
